Student ticket refund

The semester ticket entitles you to use the German regional public transport.

Since you do not make use of the German student ticket while in France or Italy, you are eligible for a refund.

Once a refund is requested, the student ticket (for the current semester) is no longer valid.

Although it has been proven to work nonetheless…

The refund procedure is done per semester. So don't worry, you will have your student ticket during the Dortmund semester(s).

This is proven to work in the summer semester 2025.

Deadline: April 30th, 2025

  • Download the form ()

  • Download your ticket from the (Home → Student Service → Requested Reports / Reports → Student Ticket)

  • Fill the form…

    • Matrikel-Nr.: matriculation number (“registration number”); can be found in the (Home → Student Service → dropdown: Personal data)

    • Ticket-ID: can be found on the ticket below your name, but probably identical to your matriculation number (“registration number”)

  • Submit the document

    • Erstattungsgrund: Auslandssemester

    • Antrag: the request form you downloaded in the beginning

    • Ticket: the ticket PDF you downloaded in the beginning

    • Nachweis: proof of matriculation at a non-German university or similar; should include start and end monhts

      • This might be a bit tricky. I had a personal confirmation note lying around, but you can try other documents/approaches first. They will e-mail you if they are not yet satisfied.

      • Maybe ask your professor to create a confirmation document with all student's names.

  • Wait for about a week

  • You got yourself approx. €150! 🎉

  • I should for these instructions… xD
